Uncle Dosh
               ©2001  Linda Wright McIver

When I was just a little thing, I'd wander down to Gramma's spring
Where Uncle Dosh would while the hours away.
He'd get down an old tin can from off a twig cut by his hand
And dip a cold drink o' water, just for me.

refrain
A purple heart and bloody days caused him to drink his life away ...
His memories were more than he could stand.
And though he was a troubled soul, Uncle Dosh had a heart of gold.
And me, I dearly loved the man - but that could never save a man.

Gramma she would watch and pray that her boy would turn to the Lord someday
We all wanted him to just be free
From the pain that dogged him all his life of remembering every night
While he suffered and tried to drown the misery

refrain
Yes battlefields and bloody days caused him to drink his life away
His memories were more than he could stand
And though he had a heart of gold - that could never save his soul
It takes the blood from sinless Hands - and it takes surrender to God's plan

The years have come and time has flown; those summer days by the spring are gone
But Jesus answered Gramma's prayers one day
Uncle Dosh bowed his head to pray - asked the Lord to take his sins away
And God set his feet in the straight and narrow Way!

One day he'll take me by the hand across the Jordan in that fair land
Where joy is never marred by memory.
We'll wander down that street of gold, drink Living Water pure and cold
And praise the One Who gave us Liberty!
Thank You, Lord - for your love at Calvary.

refrain
Yes battlefields and bloody days caused many a soul to drink his life away
But Jesus paid the price for every one!
No matter what is on your soul - Jesus' blood can make you whole
Accept the love He gave at Calvary - and know the joy of being REALLY free!!
